And here I thought we were getting a "Performance Package" in the good ol' US of A...
So, I'm !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and returning to my roots: Volkswagen. In hopes of getting good news about pricing, features, and availability, I returned to my favorite VW car salesman (no exaggeration - he's great) in hopes of getting some good news about the 7th generation GTI, and specifically the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! Performance Package.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Turns out, they just received the preliminary specs for the GTI (along with colors etc.). Interestingly, the GTI will come in a S, SE, and Autobahn trim; the latter not being all that new, but the former options are new to me. I scoured the sheets high and low, and what did I find: no LSD and no performance pack.
I'm sad.
Does anyone else have better news for me? Am I not giving "preliminary" enough credit?

Because acid is a banned substance.

Wow that's really disappointing. I was considering one but I guess not anymore maybe. They're getting a little expensive anyway.

From what I have heard, the performance pack will be a delayed option for the US, meaning we won't be getting it for the first roughly six months of sales of the new Mk7 GTI. They will become available after that.

The first edition GTI's will be known as the "suckers who can't wait" edition

The Performance Pack will be available here, but not initially.

I don't care how many times I see the acronym, still gets me every time. Shit, I need to work there so I can hand out business cards that say I'm a VAG employee. Something like:
Director of Internal Affairs -
VAG
DBWine

So it'll torque steer less. The chassis is good enough that unless you're regularly tracking or autocrossing it, you won't miss the diff. Promise. The wait for the Performance Pack is a downer, but don't let that turn you off the car.

Yup and I would be that idiot who goes around telling people "I work for VAG". I can see my wife's eye's rolling already lol. This is great.

If there's anything you should know by now it's that North American versions of German performance cars are always going to be worse (I'm looking at you , E36 M3).

Not just worse, late too. I've been seeing mk7s since 2012 and the mk7 GTI was introduced here in March. March of 2013 that is.

I guess they're reserving that for the 400; Miserly bastards!
